About this experience
Ride across 34 islands and 42 bridges known as the Florida Keys. You will travel through the 7 Mile Bridge - one of the longest in the world! The road is bordered by the emerald water of the Gulf of Mexico to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Make sure you take pictures! You will have approximately 6 hours in Key West to explore the island at your leisure and enjoy many water activities. Key West lies at the end of the chain of islands known as the Florida Keys and is the southernmost city in the continental United States.
- Key West is known for its clear blue waters, sun-filled skies, and laid-back attitude. In addition to being a great vacation spot, the city has also served as an artistic refuge, a presidential retreat, and a military post.

Planning perspective
How I’d plan this experience
I’d choose this for a car-free, single-day look at Key West rather than for a deeply guided Keys itinerary. The appeal is straightforward: settle into a coach for the long Overseas Highway journey, then use a substantial block of independent time to shape the island around your own priorities. It suits travellers who are happy making their own plan once there and who can accept that a 15-hour day is the trade-off for seeing Key West from Miami without driving.
Who this day trip suits
I think this is strongest for first-time visitors who want the scenery of the Florida Keys and the freedom to choose between streets, shops, beaches, food or a water activity after arrival. The guide provides context en route and a city map, but the time in Key West is deliberately unstructured; that is a benefit if you dislike being ushered through fixed stops.
It is less compelling if you want a destination specialist to lead you through Key West all day, or if your ideal trip is slow and spontaneous from morning to evening. Think of the coach as the main service and Key West as your own six-hour canvas, not as a packaged sightseeing programme.
Choose round trip carefully
My advice is to treat the return arrangement as the first decision, not a detail to sort out later. The listed round-trip option is the clean choice for a day return, while the one-way fare explicitly excludes the Miami return. That makes the one-way version better only for travellers deliberately staying onward in Key West or independently arranging what follows.
Food and drinks are also outside the fare, and there is a breakfast stop on the way. I’d bring what you need for an early departure rather than assume the coach trip covers your morning meal.
Plan around a genuinely long day
The early pickup window and late Miami return make this a full-commitment day. I’d avoid scheduling a dinner reservation, flight connection or another demanding activity that evening. Arrival and return times depend on traffic and drop-off location, so leave your next morning lighter too if you prefer not to run on a tight schedule.
On board, Wi-Fi, air-conditioning and a restroom make the long ride more manageable, while a light layer is sensible for anyone who gets cold in cooled vehicles. The road itself is part of the experience: the route crosses 34 islands and 42 bridges, including the Seven Mile Bridge.
Build a focused Key West plan—and allow for transport variability
Six hours can support more than one simple activity, but I’d pick one anchor experience and leave the rest flexible. Trying to cover every landmark, beach and water option risks turning independent time into a rush. The city map and walkable layout make a self-directed day practical, especially if your priority is absorbing the atmosphere rather than checking off a long list.
There is one meaningful caveat: traveller feedback is mixed on coach condition. Many found the journey comfortable and punctual, but reported issues included air-conditioning trouble, a breakdown and dirty windows or seating. I’d go for the convenience and scenery, but keep expectations realistic about the vehicle experience and avoid plans that depend on an exact return minute.
